Tag Archives: signs of spiritual deterioration

Deterioration is described as the action or process of becoming impaired or inferior in quality, functioning, or condition.

Revelation 3:1 NKJV
“And to the angel of the church in Sardis write, ‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.”

Spiritual deterioration does not happen all at once – it is usually little by little. Often spiritual deterioration comes without our awareness.

Judges 16:18-21 NKJV
“When Delilah saw that he had told her all his heart, she sent and called for the lords of the Philistines, saying, “Come up once more, for he has told me all his heart.” So the lords of the Philistines came up to her and brought the money in their hand. Then she lulled him to sleep on her knees, and called for a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. And she said, “The Philistines are upon you, Samson!” So he awoke from his sleep, and said, “I will go out as before, at other times, and shake myself free!” But he did not know that the Lord had departed from him. Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison”

Samson had the power of God upon him, but he played around with sin and was found helpless in the face of the enemy because he was unaware that God’s power had left him. Like Samson many believers and churches are playing around with sin. Things that God calls sin are no longer considered sin in the eyes of many. The sins have been renamed in an attempt to make them sound more acceptable. And just like Samson, one day they will realize that they have allowed spiritual deterioration to creep in, and that God‘s anointing is no longer upon them. Hopefully they will wake up from their slumber and repent before it is too late.
