Passover Points To Jesus

Passover Points To Jesus

Passover reminded the Hebrews of their deliverance from Egyptian bondage. God had passed through Egypt, and the oldest child of every household had died – except those who had obeyed God by putting blood from a spotless lamb on the doorposts.

Exodus 12:13 NKJV
“Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.”

As a result, the Hebrews were released from their bondage. They were freed. To help the people remember what He had done, and to point them to the Messiah, God instituted the Passover celebration.

Exodus 12:14 NKJV
“So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.”

Passover is a shadow of the sacrifice of Jesus, the Lamb of God, on the cross. Jesus Christ was crucified during an annual observance of the Passover in Jerusalem. Jesus was sacrificed on Calvary at the same time as the Passover lambs were being slain in the temple.

Just as the blood on the doorposts freed the Hebrews from the death angel, so the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ has set us free from the bondage of sin and Satan.

1 Corinthians 5:7 NKJV
“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.”

The blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sin and releases us from the punishment of sin.

Romans 6:23 NKJV
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear Jesus,
Thank-you for being our Passover Lamb. And thank-you for all the benefits that we receive through Your precious sacrifice. May we never forget all that You have done for us.
In Your precious name we pray,

The Passover Lamb

The Passover Lamb

Believers have the very same benefits through Jesus Christ as did the Hebrews through the first Passover lamb. Take a moment today and reflect on all that God provided for the Hebrews before, during and after their exodus from Egypt. What He provided for them, He has provided for you. What He did for them, He will do for you.

A few of the things God provided the Hebrews with:

protection from the judgments that Egypt experienced (Each plague was a judgment against an Egyptian idol but the plagues did not destroy or harm the Hebrews.)

life (The death angel passed over the homes where the blood was applied.)

provision (The Hebrews had asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold, and clothing. The Egyptians granted them what they requested. During their desert wandering the Bible tells us that God provided them with food and water. And their sandals/shoes never wore out!)

favor (The Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians.)

HEALTH and STRENGTH (When the Hebrews left Egypt their were no lame or sick. They had eaten the body of the Passover lamb the night before.).

Jesus is our PASSOVER LAMB. Everything we need is found in Jesus. There is promise and power in the blood and body of Christ.
