What Message Are You Giving Your Children

PARENTS

Children receive a lot of advice and messages from many, many sources. At school, at clubs, at recreational activities, and from friends just to name a few. Satan is a deceiver and he will use anyone and anything to deceive your children.

2 John 1:7-9 NKJV

“For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward. Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.”

Children must be encouraged to read God’s Word for themselves. In order to overcome all the false messages that they are bombarded with they must know God’s Word. When children are armed with the truth they can guard against and reject the things that go against God and His Word.

What Are Your Children “Eating“?

What Are Your Children “Eating“?

PARENTS

John 17:17 NKJV

“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.”

As parents we need to examine our family’s diet of television, video games, music, movies, books, magazines, and internet activity.

Regular input from the Bible, Christian teaching, Christian fellowship, and music and movies that honor God will lead your children in a positive direction. Repeated doses of ungodliness and corruption will lead your children in a negative direction.

Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”

Are the things that you are allowing your children “feed on” leading them to eternal destruction or to eternal life?

Holiday Fun Or Stumbling Blocks?

Standard

PARENTS

As a Christian our goal is to be like Christ in every area of our lives. And as a parent we should be teaching our children to do the same.

Matthew 18:6 NKJV

“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

In the above verse the words, “causes… to sin” explicitly means to put a snare, trap, or stumbling block in someone’s way. A stumbling block is defined as something that stands in the way of achieving a goal or of understanding something.

Some questions to ask yourself during the holiday season:

1. What would Jesus do? What would Jesus participate in?

2. How are our holiday activities drawing our children into an intimate relationship with God and promoting a deeper love for God?

3. Are our holiday symbols, traditions and activities innocent fun or are they stumbling blocks for our children? Do they draw our children closer to God or do they open the door to Satan in their lives through deception?

4. Is there such a thing as an okay lie?  REMEMBER, if you lie to your children when they are little, don’t be surprised when they lie to you when they are teenagers.

5. Does God have a double standard for holidays?

Sticks And Stones

Standard

PARENTS

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me…”, is a lie of the devil.  Your words and those of your children have power.

Proverbs 18:21 NKJV

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

The right words (positive words) help.

Positive words:

* assist

* provide good (godly) advice or direction

* are useful

* make things easier or better

* can prevent something negative from happening

The wrong words (negative words) hurt.

Negative words:

* injure people

* cause people to experience pain

* upset

* cause negative effects

* cause a person to experience difficulties or setbacks

As a parent are you teaching your children to speak positive words? As a parent are you speaking positive words to your children?

Are You Reviewing With Your Children?

Standard

PARENTS

As a parent you instruct your children in many ways (skills, truths and facts) through the years.

2 Peter 1:12-15 NKJV

“For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.
Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,
knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.”

It is vital to review the important skills, truths and facts as you teach new ones. Everyone needs to be reminded of things, including children. Make it a mission to remind your children of what’s most important.

Remind them by:

(1) Your words

(2) Post it on the refrigerator

(3) Show it with your time and money (your actions)

(4) Sing it (children love music, especially younger children)

The repetition will not go unnoticed. Your children will remember the things that you taught them long after you are gone.

How Much Time Do You Spend With Your Children?

Standard

PARENTS

Ecclesiastes 2:4-11 NKJV

“I made my works great, I built myself houses, and planted myself vineyards.
I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made myself water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me. Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun”

(1) Don’t neglect spending quality time with your children.

(2) Be careful not to spend too much overtime working. You may think you will accomplish a lot, but in the end it will cost you.

(3) Nothing you accomplish or acquire here on earth will last or endure forever.

(4) You can spend an entire lifetime pursuing your dream or trying to achieve satisfaction and loose out on the blessings that God had in store for you.

Are You Protecting Your Child’s Mind?

Standard

PARENTS

Satan is after the minds of our children. If he can control their mind, he can control them. All of us must renew our minds daily, and that also includes our children.

Ephesians 4:22-24 NKJV

“that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.”

Romans 12:1-2 NKJV

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Things that you can do to help protect and strengthen your child:

* Pray for your children

* Set limits (boundaries) for your household and your children – boundaries are a protection, not a punishment

* Examine your own life – don’t say one thing and do another

* When you say “No” explain why if at all possible.

* Encourage your children to have a Biblical view instead of a worldly view

* Read the Bible together

* Monitor what is allowed into their minds

Colossians 3:2 NKJV

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”
