Lifestyle Change

God will use anything to reveal spiritual truths to you. Whether it’s nature, family, church, or even trying to lose weight. Trying to lose weight is much like our spiritual walk.
.
I have seen many people start out to lose weight. They buy exercise equipment, get a gym membership, get a personal trainer, and do many other things to lose the extra weight. They seem to do well at the beginning. However, when they stop working out, or going to the gym, the extra weight comes right back. In almost all these cases it was because there was never a true lifestyle change. Their eating habits remained pretty much the same so naturally when they stopped exercising every day and, stopped listening to the personal trainer, the extra weight began to creep back on. So it is also with our spiritual walk.
.
I have seen many people start out on their spiritual walk with God. They go to the altar and pray a prayer, thinking that is all there is to it. And it would be, if you died that very moment. However, we live in a world that abounds with sin. Many of these people start out with intentions to follow God and to serve Him. They may even attend church and listen to the sermons. However, they never make a lifestyle change. True repentance is turning and going in the opposite direction. Instead of changing their diet and feasting on God’s Word and spiritual things, they continue to eat the junk that the world offers.
.
When losing weight or trying to get into shape, a personal trainer can only advise you what to do. They don’t do the work for you. It’s up to you to do what they say – you make the decision. The Holy Spirit will try to lead us in the right direction and give us advice, however we must do the work. For example: You start to watch something on television and the Holy Spirit quickens your spirit not to watch it. You have a choice – you either listen to Him or you override His prompting. You have to make the decision
.
No amount of going to the gym is going to cancel out bad eating habits. You might lose the extra pounds however, there are things going on within your body that are being effected in a negative manner. Just like no amount of going to church is going to cancel out your feasting on what the world offers. You might look nice on the outside but within you there is still sin.
.
Some people that start a diet are only looking for a quick fix, or a temporary fix, maybe out of guilt. Just as some people that came to the altar don’t really want to change – they only want to feel better. They don’t want to feel so guilty. There are no quick fixes. Losing weight and your spiritual walk both take determination and a lifetime commitment. In both you need to look at the reward you will receive and not at what you may be giving up.
.
You cannot set out to lose weight for someone else – you must do it for YOU. Just as you cannot “get saved” for someone else – because they want you to. You must want it for yourself. You must hear the Holy Spirit’s voice drawing you to God. If you try to do either for someone else you will lack the commitment it will take for the journey.
.
In both, losing weight and your spiritual walk, you cannot rely on others. Others can sometimes be helpful but sometimes they can also be a hindrance. They may not know what eating just one cookie or a handful of chips might do to you or your diet. Just as people may not know what the effects of doing something just one time are on your spiritual walk. The Holy Spirit has been given to us for help in many things, including direction and guidance. If we listen He will help in both losing weight and in our spiritual walk. If we truly want to change our lifestyle, He will help.

DON’T PARTAKE OR SHARE IN OTHER PEOPLE’S SIN

Yesterday facebook feeds were filled with posts about the Super Bowl halftime show. Many appeared to be outraged at the behavior /dress of the so called entertainers. Unless you were just born yesterday, you know that the halftime show has a history of ungodly and immoral behavior. So my question is, “Why were you watching it?” Most likely you did not ask yourself, “Would Jesus watch this?” If Jesus would not take pleasure watching something, you should not either. If it’s not okay for your children to watch, it’s not okay for you to watch. PARENTS DON’T HAVE A DOUBLE STANDARD WITH YOUR CHILDREN.
People like to blame the world, the church and the schools for all the problems with the young people today, but God did not give your children to the world, the church or the schools to raise. He gave them to you. You are the one that will ultimately stand before God and give an account for how YOU raised YOUR children.
For all those that watched the halftime show and later acted like they were offended, have you not read 1 Timothy 5:22 – DO NOT SHARE IN OTHER PEOPLE’S SIN? Too many people today say that they know Jesus as their Savior but yet they can watch /listen to things that the Bible clearly calls sin – they wouldn’t dream of doing the things that they watch (adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, lascivious behavior, and much more) but they enjoy watching it…… Maybe it’s time for parents to get off the couch and out of the lazy boy and back to the altar.

1 Timothy 5:22 NKJV
“Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people’s sins; keep yourself pure.”
