Jesus – Living Water

Jesus – Living Water

John 7:37 NKJV
“On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.’ ”

Shemini Atzert, is the eighth day that was added to the Feast of Tabernacles during the time of Ezar. This day became known as “The Great Day of the Feast.” On this day the High Priest would pour water from the pool of Siloam into a basin at the foot of the altar. The water was a symbol of God’s Spirit. During the temple times the custom was to draw from the Siloam springs a “libation” to accompany the offerings. This was done with great rejoicing and expressions of thanksgiving.
.
It was on the eighth day that Jesus told the people if they were thirsty to come to Him and drink.
Jesus declared Himself to be the source of the spring, that He was the source of living water.

.
John 7:37-38 NKJV
“On the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ”

Jesus told the people that were gathered, as the High Priest poured water from the pool of Siloam into the basin, that if they believed in Him, rivers of living water would flow out of them. By this Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit. The water the High Priest would pour out was just a symbol of God’s Spirit but Jesus offered them the real thing, the Holy Spirit (rivers of living water).
.

In the natural realm when a person is thirsty they have a desire or need for a drink. They have a strong desire to quench their thirst. The same is true in the spiritual realm. When we are spiritually thirsty we have a need for living water. Jesus invites every person that is thirsty to go to Him, the only One that can truly satisfy their thirst.
.

Nothing tastes as good as a big drink of cold water when a person is thirsty. The water will only satisfy you for a while. Soon you will need another drink of water. The Bible tells us that Jesus can give us a drink of water that will last forever. Not water that comes out of a faucet or a bottle, but a special kind of water. Jesus can give us the water of everlasting life. The life that Jesus offers constantly satisfies. We can have this “living water” by believing that Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

.
Romans 3:23 NKJV
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
.

Everyone has sinned and is separated from God because of it. This separation causes us to have a spiritual thirst that only God can satisfy. We cannot change ourselves or satisfy our own thirst. We must be willing to admit that we are a sinner and that we need Jesus to give us “living water” (eternal life).

.
Romans 6:23 NKJV
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
.
John 3:16 NKJV
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

You Are Light

Standard
You Are Light

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16  NKJV

God wants us to let our light shine.

Light To The World

As a Christian we are called to be a light to the world. The dictionary describes light as a brightness that enables us to see. Light brings understanding or shows the way.

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

 Matthew 5:14

Without light we have no way of seeing in the dark. Without the light of Jesus Christ the world has no way of seeing in this dark (sinful) world.

“…giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”

Colossians 1:12

With every inheritance comes responsibilities. Christians have a responsibility to be a light everywhere they go and in everything they do.

“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”

 Philippians 2:14-15

The light within us (the light of Christ) should penetrate the spiritual darkness around us. We do not have any light of our own. We are the reflective light of Jesus Christ. As we behold the glory of the Lord, we reflect it. We are the light of the world as long as we reflect Jesus Christ. We must make sure that nothing comes between us and the light of Jesus Christ.

Light To The House

Not only are we to be a light to the lost in a dark world, we are to be a light to those in the house also.

“Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”

  Matthew 5:15

Light indicates deliverance from darkness.  Each Christian has been delivered from darkness. And each one has a testimony and they should be ready to give it. We should never hide what God has done for us. Other Christians are encouraged by our testimonies. The Bible tells us that we overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Just because a person is a Christian it does not mean that they will not struggle with things. What God has delivered you from can help someone else that is faced with the same thing. Your deliverance can be light to someone else.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:16

Everything we do and say should point people to God. When people look at us they should not see us (fleshly man), they should see Jesus living in us.  There are people watching each and everyone of us. May what they see be the light that they need to created a hunger for God and the things of God.
