There are many feasts and festivals in the Bible. Each one presents a wonderful truth about God and Jesus Christ, our soon coming King. The enemy has always sought to turn people away from God. One way of doing that, is by counterfeiting the things of God. When we are desperate for more of the Lord’s presence in our lives we can not hold on to the ways of the world. Including the world’s holidays and celebrations that have pagan roots and ties.
Many of the world’s celebrations (holidays, events) are soulish. Many have evil or sinful “roots.” Many “glorify” evil and ungodliness. Are we participating in innocent fun, or are we really like the Israelites, falling into paganism unaware of what is happing to us?
Unaware: not aware; unconscious; without thought; unawares.
Unawares: without being expected; by surprise; without knowing.
Ephesians 5:11 NKJV
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them”
God tells us in His Word, the Bible, that we should not have any fellowship with the darkness. We are instructed to be different than the world. We can be in this world and not of this world. We must not allow the world and it’s standards to rule us. A Christian must not set themselves in agreement with the practices, standards, conduct or worship of the world.
Romans 12:2 NKJV
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
In Romans, we are told not to be like the world, and not to let the world set the standards for our lives. God has never changed His mind about how He feels about evil. According to Deuteronomy 18:9-14, evil and the things associated with it are an abomination to God.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 NKJV
“When you come into the land which the Lord you God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord you God drives them out from before you. You shall be blameless before the Lord your God. For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not appointed such for you.”
Abomination means something that arouses strong disgust. In other words, many of our soulish holidays are disgusting to God Almighty! If God has brought you out of Egypt into a new land ( if you have accepted the gift of salvation / if you are saved), you have no part in participating in the things that are an abomination to God. If you are a child of God, He has not appointed you to participate in evil.
As Christians we should be careful about participating in the things of the world. Each person should seriously read the Word of God and pray as to what they will participate in.
2 Thessalonians 5:21 NKJV
“Test all things; hold fast what is good.”
